Connectivity without Borders: Telepresence System for Itaipu in Brazil and Paraguay

In the energy sector, effective collaboration between teams located in different regions is crucial to ensure operational efficiency. Itaipu, one of the largest hydroelectric plants in the world, relied on Función Digital to implement a state-of-the-art telepresence system at its facilities in Brazil and Paraguay, facilitating real-time communication and decision-making among its binational teams.

Telepresence Solution for Itaipu

The main challenge of this project was to effectively and seamlessly connect Itaipu teams in both countries, eliminating geographical barriers and improving the coordination of their operations. For this purpose, we installed a CISCO Telepresence System, recognized for its high quality and secure videoconferencing technology. Some of the main features include:

  • Real-Time Connectivity: The system enables virtual meetings with high-definition video and audio between teams in Brazil and Paraguay, facilitating efficient collaboration on complex projects.
  • Security and Reliability: CISCO’ s telepresence infrastructure ensures secure and stable communications, essential for the energy sector, where sensitive and strategic data is handled.
  • Process Optimization: By reducing the need for physical transfers between headquarters, Itaipu has optimized time and resources, increasing the agility in making key decisions for the operation of the dam.

Impact on Itaipu’s Binational Operation

Thanks to this implementation, Itaipu ‘s teams in Brazil and Paraguay can now work in a more coordinated and efficient way, boosting productivity and collaboration in real time. The telepresence system not only improves internal communication, but also reinforces Itaipu ‘s commitment to technological innovation and operational sustainability. At Función Digital, we are proud to have contributed to connecting Itaipu, facilitating workflow between two countries and improving the management of one of the largest hydroelectric projects in the world.
